The Marvels Of Music

Image
Music is something that impacts us all one way or another. Listening to it while studying or on a car ride, or wherever, it has profound impact on humanity as a whole and to the individual. There have been various clinical studies to showcase how music can affect the brain in many positive ways and how certain types of music maybe beneficial in certain types of scenarios such as for focus and memory improvement.      The author showcases how music has impacted his life by describing walking through many deserted and ghost town-esque streets of the Bronx, saying how various blocks would be seemingly abandoned yet he would still hear the sound of hip-hop. Westmore talks about how hearing hip-hop was a certain awakening for representation for him. Hip-hop has its roots in African-American culture and has been popularized by the African-American community as such. More sees this as representation for the black community and as well as himself as an indivi...

The Impact of Mentors

Image
Wes Moore had a caring yet somewhat tough mother growing up. She is likely his first mentor as he had no father figure losing his father early in his life. She had ingrained in him lessons of the importance of doing well in school, as well as finding a good career for yourself and not getting into trouble. She also taught him about respecting women and people in general. When she sees that Wes was starting to get into some serious trouble at a rather early age she had realized that she may not be able to do enough to set him on a good path in life, and therefore made a decision to send him to military school. In going to military school and having those father like figures who are there to still teach and toughen him up, Wes, learns to respect his lieutenants and those in higher command further up the chain of command and is shaped into a much more respectable person where he then learns to focus on his career and his future while still caring for his community back home. ...

Food, Drink & Tobacco: A Poor Givernment’s Sight For Health, But Great Sight For Profit

The epidemic of easily-accessible, 24/7, simple foods is an ever-growing one, expanding wait lines and businesses all around the country. While the fast food has seen an increase in prices, the consumption of them has done anything but slow down. Is Pop Culture Good For You?

Image
It is a constant throughout all generations to complain and compare one generation to the previous and next ones. It is seen throughout all of history, and continues to be a continuing trend, perhaps even tradition, in today’s world. While Pop Culture is one of the main focuses of this, it is constantly changing with the interests and habits of the ever-changing world, and a rapidly-changing world at that. What a was cool or interesting last month, let alone last decade, is not the trend today. With it, these trends and other elements of pop culture help shape the interests of today’s society, as well as the creativity, communication and social life, and overall inspiration. Current music and art of today’s world inspires what is yet to come, and what came before today and inspired what the present holds. Overall, pop culture, despite the admittedly various controversial aspects it brings upon society, is a good thing that keeps the creative fuel and drive alive.     ...

Joshua’s Blog

Think about your earliest experience of becoming literate. This can even include things like holding a book correctly or scanning text left to right, etc.Who helped you? Who inspired you? Who supported you? How?  While it was perhaps too long ago to be certain of in terms of when I had become literate, it was without a doubt around the time memory was able to be retained, for I have always loved reading, poking at images and drawings, etc. One major factor was starting Hebrew school at an early age, learning religious stories, Hebrew literature, as well as how to read Hebrew. I do recall in kindergarten, learning how to write letters, read and write from left to write, as well as what type of books, and how to determine difficulty. My family would also gift me various assisting materials for reading and writing. Were you encouraged or discouraged? I was definitely encouraged to read, write and think as much as possible, to constant excercise my mind and to engage i...
